RPL/RPEL route permanently reopens
Following the RCVS updated guidance for Veterinary Surgeons in delegating work to musculoskeletal therapists at the end of last year (https://www.rcvs.org.uk/news-and-views/news/rcvs-releases-new-guidance-on-delegating-veterinary-work-to/?utm_source=Informz&utm_medium=Referral&utm_campaign=RCVS ) where the RCVS advised Veterinary Surgeons “should ensure, before delegation (for treatment), that they are confident that the musculoskeletal therapist is appropriately qualified and competent; indicators can include membership of a voluntary register with associated standards of education and conduct, supported by a disciplinary process.” AHPR was contacted by a number of therapists who had missed the deadline for entry via Recognition of Prior Learning / Experiential Learning (RPL/RPEL) “grandfathering” on to the different subgroup sections of the register.
In order to allow therapists to become part of a voluntary register that meets the RCVS suggested criteria the Board has decided to permanently reopen this route of entry to those therapists who qualified before the deadlines for RPL/RPEL (relevant dates listed below).
- Animal / Veterinary Physiotherapy 1stApril 2020
- Animal Chiropractic & Manipulation 1stJune 2020

- Application via RPL/RPEL route is currently open for the Hydrotherapy subgroup until 1st November 2022.
